Vintage anime t-shirts, garment-washed

Most of the archive is printed on one blank: a 270gsm tee knitted from 32S cotton and washed after it is sewn. That wash is what makes these vintage anime t-shirts look and feel the way they do. The color comes out faded and slightly uneven rather than a flat dye, the hand is soft from the first wear, and most of the shrinkage has already happened before the tee ships.

How the wash looks and ages

The black is an acid-washed black, and the range also runs in white, beige and pink. Because the finish is a wash, careful laundering keeps it where it is; hot water and a hot dryer only push it further in the same direction. The artwork is a bonded matte print that sits flat with no gloss, drawn in bold shapes because washed cloth has a slightly irregular face. Prints sit on the front, the back or both, and each product page says which. Very little. The tee is washed after it is sewn, so most of the shrinkage happens before it ships and what you measure on arrival is close to what you keep. Wash it cold, inside out, and hang it to dry; a hot dryer is where any remaining shrinkage would happen.

How do oversized anime tees fit?

The vintage tee is a relaxed oversized cut and true to size. Take your usual size for the intended boxy look, size down for a closer fit, or size up for an even boxier one. Measure a tee you own flat and compare it with the size guide.

Will the faded color keep fading?
